The Driving Test with Cary's School of Motoring
When we arrive at the Test Centre I will ensure that will we only have to wait a few minutes in the pleasant surroundings of the waiting room. When your name is called out; your driving Licence and Theory Certificate will be checked and if all is satisfactory you will now be asked if you want your Driving Instructor to sit in on your lesson. you will then be taken outside to your car and then asked to: 1) Check your eye sight by getting you to read a number plate from the required distance. 2) Ask you two vehicle Safety Check Questions, one Show Me & one Tell Me. 3) Direct you around a Test Route Lasting approx 40 Minutes depending on traffic conditions and asking you to carry out two set manoeuvres and optionally the emergency stop. 4) Set Manoeuvres: Reversing around a corner; Turn in the Road; Reverse Bay Parking; Reverse Parallel Parking.
Eyesight Check
The eyesight check is required so you can demonstrate that your sight is good enough to drive safely. You will be asked to read a clean number plate from a minimum distance of 20.5 meters; or a new style number plate (these letters are narrower) from a minimum distance of 20 meters. You will be giving 3 attempts and if by the third attempt you still have a problem the examiner will measure out the exact distance, if you still cant read the number plate correctly you will fail your driving test and the test will go no further.
Vehicle Safety Checks - "Show Me - Tell Me"
After Completing the eyesight test you will walk the examiner to your car, where you will be asked two Vehicle Safety Check - "Show Me - Tell Me" Questions. One or both questions answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault (i:e minor fault) being recorded on your test sheet form (DL 25).
Driving - Practical Test
During the Driving part of the practical test the examiner will ask you to drive on a route with different road conditions. At certain points the examiner will get you to undertake two of the set manoeuvres and optionally the emergency stop. The examiner will tell you in good time which way to go. If you go the wrong way do not panic, the examiner is testing your ability to drive safely; so it will be better and safer to go the wrong way correctly, than to go the right way incorrectly. During the test the examiner will record any driving faults on the Driving Test Report Form (DL 25). If you commit 16 or more minor faults you will unfortunately would have been unsuccessful at that attempt to pass your driving test, you will also be unsuccessful if you commit any serious or dangerous faults.
